We are so excited that Sarah Kirsten will be teaching her Big Bluestem Backpack pattern at Home Ec.! Join Sarah for a 3-session class to make your own waxed canvas, dry oilskin or canvas backpack! This class is especially great for beginner sewists and first time bag makers. If you've been intimidated to jump into the world of bag making before, this is the class for you. Waxed canvas and dry oilskin are delightfully easy and fun to sew. Sarah will walk you through each step in the process including tips and tricks for sewing zippers and be there to help with any tricky parts if you are just getting started in sewing. At the end of the class, you will leave with your very own, made by you, one of a kind backpack.

Materials needed:

1 yard 56” wide or 1 1/2 yard 42” wide 10 oz waxed cotton canvas, dry oilskin, or canvas weight fabric.

1/2 yard batting -- sweatshirt fabric, an old blanket, cotton quilting batting, etc. can be used

2 yards 1” webbing

2 rectangle D rings for 1” webbing

2 slide adjusters for 1” webbing

30” zipper - bag zipper

12” zipper - one way zipper
