You’ve queried, you’ve asked, you’ve pleaded…yes, this is a class for fitting! We will be using the Joanie top as our base and in this class you will learn how to adjust a pattern to your body shape. We will start the class with taking your measurements, studying profile pictures, and understanding the basics of fitting and apply adjustments to your pattern for a best-fit. Ever wonder how to do a full-bust adjustment? How do you know if you have forward shoulders or a sway back? This is the class for you!

Joanie View A is semi-fitted with front bust darts, back yoke, and princess seams. There are cuffed sleeves and a high-hip length hem. View B has a shawl collar and a tunic length hem along with long sleeves and sleek placket and cuff application. Both tops have a button front with a hi-low hem, shorter in front and longer in back. You can mix and match options - why not use the camp collar on the tunic version or the shawl collar on the short length top? You choose!

***For the first class, please wear a sports bra or swimsuit top under your regular top for the measurements portion.

Supplies Needed:

1. Pattern-This is a PDF pattern only and must be purchased through the Sew Liberated HERE.  Please come to class with your pattern and instructions printed.  The pattern PDF includes a copy shop version and can be printed locally at Copyworks.

2. Muslin fabric or recycled sheet for the toile.

3. Basic sewing kit (pins, thread, marking pen, scissors, seam ripper, bobbin (please purchase bobbins from Home Ec if you will be using the machines in the workshop-not all bobbins fit in our machines).

4. We recommend a light- to medium-weight woven fabric that has no stretch. The drape or hand of the fabric will impact the look of the final garment - softer fabrics will fall more gently, and more stable fabrics like linen and cotton will emphasize the sleeve and collar shaping. Some wonderful choices are chambray, viscose-linen slub, sandwashed linen or cotton, cotton ikat, or even silk noil.

5. 1.5 yd (1.4 m) of lightweight fusible interfacing, either woven or non-woven. (An average width of interfacing is 20” (0.5 m).)

6.  Buttons, 1/2” (1.3 cm) in diameter. 4 or 5 buttons for View A, 8 to 10 buttons for View B. •

You will receive 15% off all supplies you purchase for class!
