Do you love to knit but hate to put the pieces together?  Are you intimidated by certain projects because you are unsure of how to sew seams or pick up stitches for button bands or necklines?  A few simple techniques can take the pain out of these necessary parts of the process.  You will be amazed at your results.  Part I covers SEAMING: VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL.   Part II will cover: PICKING UP STITCHES FOR BUTTONBANDS AND NECKLINES.  Prior to class, you will need to make some simple small swatches, so check in at Home Ec. for the details.

Make this quick and easy scarf in a night.  Use our bright prints (or our lovely new velveteens) to add a bit of color to your winter wardrobe.  This is a great class for beginners.

In one evening you will learn several embroidery stitches, how to transfer images and many ideas of how (and where) to use these embroidery stitches. Leave class with your own printed sampler, hoop, needle, floss and laminated stitch guide.

If you already know how to knit, purl and cast on, you can learn to knit socks from the toe-up, two-at-a-time on two circular needles. Use worsted weight yarn and two pairs of US 4 circular needles, 24″ or longer. It helps if one is bamboo and one metal.

Armed with nothing more than a dowel, a couple CDs, a cup hook, and a supply of fiber, you can create yarns that will be the envy of every knitter and weaver you know. This workshop will introduce you to the magic of creating incredible yarn with a hand spindle. We’ll cover fibers, spindles, types of spinning, finishing yarns, and use of yarn. Be prepared to learn a fascinating skill and to be astounded at what your hands can create.

Learn the basics of knitting or improve your knitting skills by getting started on a challenging project. Beginners can work on a scarf or hat and more advanced knitters can choose any pattern.

Screen Printing

$35, plus screen purchase or rental

Learn to take an image and create a silkscreen. Print an image that you bring on T-shirts, scarves, bags etc.   Bring a Xerox copy of a high contrast, black and white image. (no larger than 7.5″x10″)

Now that you know basic embroidery stitches, embellish them! Learn various ways to thread and weave into stitches to create more complex stitched surfaces.

Saturday, February 25, 11 – 3

25 plus supplies (batting and muslin included)

Embellish your quilts with big stitch quilting.  Learn how to start and finish your quilting with hidden knots.   During class turn your quilted sample into an envelope style pillow cover.
