Come and check out our new window display this weekend. Iowa City’s Gallery Walk is this Friday, June 4 from 5 – 8 p.m. Home Ec Workshop features Suzanne Bradley in a mixed media window installation. (Suzanne is the creator of the felted wool lamp hanging in Home Ec.!)
Our craft kit for June is an embroidered
and appliquéd journal or sketchbook
$6 or $7 and free workshop time (Price depends on the size of journal you choose)!
Throughout the month of June, stop into Home Ec. anytime there is not a class in the workshop and make an adorable (and useful!) embellished journal or sketchbook using simple embroidery and appliqué techniques. Use one of our designs or make up your own. This project is child friendly when accompanied by an adult.

Craft Crawl 2010

Join area businesses and celebrate the art of crafting!
Visit the following shops during Craft Crawl 2010:
Home Ec. Workshop, Ben Franklin Crafts, Shields Sewing Center, Dawn’s Beads, Fired Up Iowa City, Inc., Common Threads Quilt Shoppe and The Knitting Shoppe. When you make a purchase you will get a punch card. Cards with punches from all 7 shops are eligible for the Grand Prize Drawing: A $50 gift certificate from each shop!
During the Craft Crawl, Home Ec. will offer a $5 surprise craft kit, which includes free workshop time to make the kit!

SCHOOLHOUSE TUNIC
Thursdays, February 18, 25 & March 4, 7 – 9 p.m.

CROCHET HEART WITH WIRE AND BEADS with Jody

So you know how to crochet – but have you ever tried it with wire? Learn to make an airy wire heart, then decide how to use it: as a pin, pendant, special card or scrapbook embellishment – anything your heart desires! Students should know how to make basic chain stitches and single crochet stitches. Bring a size E or F crochet hook – a metal hook is recommended for use with wire.
WINTER GLOVE ANIMALS Kids Class!

Using winter gloves, fabric, yarn, felt, and buttons, learn to make small stuffed animals to play with and love. Class taught by local artist Katie Parry.

It’s the perfect time to sew a pair of slippers and keep your feet warm and cozy. Choose a colorful fabric to brighten up your winter!
SCREEN PRINTING
Tuesday, February 23, 7 – 9 p.m.
$35 + supplies
Learn to take an image and create a silkscreen. Print it on T-shirts, scarves, bags etc. We will have jersey T-shirts and scarves that you can purchase to print on, or bring your favorite tees from home! Bring to class a high contrast image on photocopy paper.
LEARN TO KNIT
Wednesdays, February 24, March 3 & 10, 7 – 9 p.m.
$35 + supplies
Learn the basics of knitting including how to cast on, knit, purl and read a pattern in this beginner-friendly class. Start with a scarf or get help with making whatever project inspires you.
CARD MAKING: Cut It, Iron It, Stamp It! with Jody
Friday Feb. 26th from 6-8

For those who love fabric and also scrapbooking or card making: here’s an idea for using up scrap fabric. Combine rubber stamp techniques, die cutting, fabric, and Heat & Bond to make unique cards – it’s easier than you think! Bring or purchase your favorite fabrics and turn them into special cards for the ones you love.
CLOTH BOOKS (2 part class)
Saturdays, February 27 and March 6, 1 – 3 p.m.
$35 + supplies (pattern included)
Using fabric make either a cloth children’s activity book, story book, or book of collaged cloth images. Come with ideas of what you would like the content of your book to include.
